My wife thinks that the third degree multibrot looks like a bug. I think it looks a bit like an ant, so we aren’t far off of agreeing there. In either case, the image above is a detail from one of the “antennae.” Clicking the image (approx. 7 MB) will load a high resolution picture of the northern third (or thereabouts) of the third degree multibrot set. The dark red region that dominates the bottom half of the image consists of points that fall into an orbit when the function \(f(z) = z^3+z_c\) is iterated repeatedly, while the rest of the image is colored using the normalized iteration count algorithm (a smooth coloring algorithm).
